  • No turning back now with the outdoor oven test. Bread is just about ready to be kneaded. I hope it's worth it… #
  • Propane oven, take 1. So far so good. http://campl.us/cQj #
  • Bread in the oven, not ideal. Bread on the grill in the cloche.. much better but much longer. Still waiting for loaf one to finish… #
  • I'm hot, I have a headache and I'm tired. Typical Sunday night. Bread looks good but I'm going to wait to bake the second one till tomorrow. #
  • Loaf two is on the grill, inside my cloche. I'm going to check on it every 10 minutes to try and keep an even temp and rotate the pan. #
  • Looks like one of my best loaves to date. All the more amazing coming off a standard outdoor grill! http://yfrog.com/na76gj #
  • I ordered my second round of 2TB disks this AM. Newegg has them on sale for $110 again and I jumped at it! #

  • It occurs to me, at this moment, that I could right now make use of an iPad. First time that's happened.. we'll see if it continues. #
  • I'm at the Sanderson fly in, in Greenland Nh. #
  • Back from the Fly In, which was a blast. Not too busy but fun all the same. Lots of good shots… I hope. #
  • Pulling together the last bits of kit I can find for my new to me camera. Still in dire need of a right angle or waist level finder… #
  • It seems I've forgotten my tea stuff at home today. This always happens when I bring it home for a good cleaning… You think I'd learn… #
  • Arg! My first 2TB Drive failure! Time to setup the RMA and get it replaced. Surprised it took so long… #
  • Time to go grab some food for lunch at the Hannafords. I'm, as ever, disappointed to see it's reached 90 outside. #

Delving into Medium Format Film Cameras

July 13th, 2010

*** What follows is a post which, as usual, is written more for me then anyone else. It has taken more than 1300 words to help wrap my mind around medium format, the Mamiya 645 Pro, and how it compares to my past knowledge of 35mm cameras. I only hope you are sitting if you choose to read this, as you will be asleep before it’s end ***

I’ve been thinking for some time about picking up a medium format film camera. It’s been nagging at me for a few years and when I was recently helping my parents dig out some old slides from their honeymoon, we ran across a few medium format slides from when my dad was a child. I was immediately blown away by the quality of the frames and it was the final push I needed to really start looking for a camera in earnest.

After digging around on the web comparing various cameras, each with unique pros and cons, I had figured out that I was interested in a camera that could accept a waist level finder as well and be able to swap film backs, mid roll.

  • Fireworks was fun! Time to wait in traffic… #
  • Finally home. I'm totally knackered, covered in ash and very ready for bed! What a day! #
  • I'm all showered and ready for tonight's cookout. Time to brave the heat and make my way over to my parents house. #
  • Just home from a 4th of July cookout with the family and some friends. I schooled @SoucCore in badminton. I am king of the shuttlecock! #
  • Glad I shot film last night at the fireworks, but in future I think I'll go with a
more automated camera. Loading film in the dark is hard. #
  • Testing and beating on my last 2TB disk. 8TBs were tested over the weekend. Should have the new array online this week… #
  • Amazingly tedious day. None of our ancillary support companies are open so we're stuck fielding loads of questions for can't answer. #
  • Stupid day after a holiday.. none of the places I wanted to stop in at this after are open. #

  • Made pretty good progress today; I Even got my grape vines planted! http://twitpic.com/209wfk #
  • Gearing up to head to a church meeting. The church is choosing which contractor will lead the construction project. Should be exciting! #
  • Meeting is going well. Sure is hot up here in the loft though… #
  • Meeting is over and it went well. The motion to approve the construction firm was approved unanimously. I am totoally shocked! #
  • I feel like I've got a Brillo pad stuck in my throat this morning. Not ideal. Sipping some tea at the office should help a bit though… #
  • I went to bed early, but I also woke up early. Not feeling great today.. more tea and an early night should set things right for tomorrow. #
  • Pretty impressed that Apple moved 1.7 million iPhones through Saturday. More impressed (or surprised) that AT&T's network didn't flinch! #
  • Giant Kashi display today at Hannafords. I stocked up! #
