  • The guy that also works in my office has gone home sick. I'm sorry he is feeling poorly.. but I am looking forward to a much better day! #
  • Well, I've pre-ordered OS X Snow Leopard for my Macs but I'm holing off on the server upgrade. I'm going to buy it.. just not quite yet. #
  • Whoops…. going to be tough to get out of here today. I'm at the office a bit late to dodge the traffic 🙁 #
  • He is talking to me in my doorway.. telling me stuff I don't care about or want to know about. Move along… #
  • Going to try and get some more tennis in tonight. Sky is clouding up but I hope to squeeze it in between rain… #
  • It's pretty cloudy and I see a few drops… No reason not to play tennis though! #
  • Got a great early birthday gift from my friends: a tennis racket! Pretty excited. Didn't make me any better though 🙂 #

  • A cool shower before bed makes the day look not so bad. Fingers crossed I can start this week with more then 4 hours sleep… #
  • Lost another pound. It's a good way to start a week I'd say 🙂 That makes 9 pounds this year. Not a huge amount but every little bit helps! #
  • I need to find a new fun technical project to work on… Not sure what it will be. #
  • It looks like you can grow asparagus in boxes with bottoms it seems. Needs to be big and deep.. but do able. On the list for next year! #
  • It's been a while since I've computed while watching TV. Perhaps I'm fully computed when I arrive home… #
  • Wow, my new window fan really moves a lot of air. More then I expected.. though it's not quiet when it does it. Slower speeds are better… #
  • Wow.. I've only been at the office and hour and I'm already having an awful day. #

  • Very weird dream last night. The story lines are never that odd.. but I'm always in odd places. I had two jobs, that I got to via duct work #
  • Going to be a warm one today it seems… looking at the forecast though it'll be a short one day heat wave. I hope that is true! #
  • Excited to get to work today… testing out VMWare ESXi 4.0 with an ISCSI SAN back-end. Some might consider that to be a little geeky… #
  • I made two awesome loaves of sourdough this weekend. I need to let go of my dream to have whole wheat bread be the same as non-whole wheat. #
  • The other guy here in my office is killing me.. stop asking me dumb questions!!! AAAAARRRRG! #
  • Alright.. I'm toast. Time to head for home. Well.. after the daily garden tour that is 🙂 #
  • Temps have come down a bit but the humidity hangs on. Looks like the rest of the week should be a bit better though. Summer has arrived 🙁 #

  • I'm freshly showered and reasonably cool.. I'm off to bed! I need to try and catch up before we get more heat! #
  • Trying to get people together tonight to head out and see Food Inc. No close theaters, have to drive about an hour. Hope it's worth it! #
  • Getting home from seeing Food Inc tonight. Really great film, done much better then most. Lots of good info, but it ends on an up note. #
  • A/C not keeping up here at the office. It's better then nothing.. but it's going to be hot in here when it hits 90! #
  • I sincerely hate people. #
  • Wow, what a morning! Unreal number of issues to deal with today at the office. Loosing hardware left and right! #
  • I'm enjoying playing around with some older PC hardware. It's fun to take a look back at installing DOS and Windows 3. The world we lived in #
  • Saturday is here, but it hasn't started well. #

Food, Inc. Is Worth a Trip

August 5th, 2009

Most movies dealing with the business of food are jam packed with horrible images and generally scary content. They typically seem hell bent on scaring you and then the movie just ends. This was not the case with Food, Inc. Sure, the film included the obligatory clips of the mistreatment of animals and other not so pleasant topics, but in the end I didn’t leave feeling powerless, I left thinking that I could, in a small way, begin to correct what is happening.

The movie was laid out around many topics, each of which is covered only briefly. They offer a description of what each problem area with our food supply is and then brought in some people to help put a real face to the issues. You hear from a pig farmer, a corn farmer, a mother who lost a child, a farmer doing things the ‘old’ way and a company selling product to Wal-Mart, among others. It’s really quite interesting to see a day in the life of a farmer these days and what has changed.

  • The evening has cooled off a bit, but more importantly it's dried out. Should make sleep at least possible. Can't wait for SNOW!!! #
  • Warm at the office today. The A/C is not keeping up and it's not that warm out. Having a dozen running machines in my office doesn't help. #
  • Finally sorted our the dead iPhone VM issue. A full restore seemed to fix it. Now I'm restoring my apps and prefs. I hope it still works! #
  • Really starting to see some veg come in from my many gardens: #
  • Temps have come down.. humidity is still at 93%. #
  • I've got 4 monitors on my desk now. Looks awesome. I don't know how I worked without them before! I can actually see what is happening now! #
  • Worry not praise team members, the A/C has been cranking all day and the barn is nice and cool! #
  • Pretty warm tonight, options for sleep are still pretty bleak. Got to try though… Futurama will help though. It always does. #
